Is Donald Trump playing a game with the American people? Some are saying, his campaign is “going off the rails.”
He makes it clear. If you attack him, he will attack you back. But his attack will be more personal than yours.
Take the example of the mother and father of a U.S. soldier killed in Iraq. Khizr Kahn spoke at the Democratic convention. He said U.S. Muslims were patriots. He said their rights as Americans are part o of the Constitution. He asked of Trump, “Have you ever read the Constitution?” He spoke of his son given the Bronze Star for heroism. He said of Trump, “You have sacrificed nothing and no one.”
Trump said he said he had sacrificed also. Sacrificed in building his businesses!
The simple thing Trump could have said was he was sorry for their loss. The family is a Gold Star family. It means they lost a family member in combat. This country honors these families. Instead, Trump attacked Mrs. Khan who was present for “not speaking.” He said was “she not allowed to speak?” He said the Democrats wrote the speech.
Trump earlier said that Senator John McCain was not a hero because the enemy captured him. This latest attack was too much for almost everyone.
Veteran’s groups expressed outrage, as did many politicians. Political experts could not explain why Trump would pick this fight. Here is one possible thought. This approach works for him. His supporters say this what makes him “different.”
The election is three months away. Some are saying that Trump may want to lose the race. Maybe he does not want to be president. Trump is already saying the election “is rigged.” Is his candidacy a plan to develop a new business?
Trump’s actions are so out of the ordinary. It is hard to know what to make of them. This incident with the Gold Star family is one of many unusual actions. This campaign is the strangest in memory.
