Politics in America
People like to be certain. It makes them feel better. Political life has not been certain this last year.
Donald Trump is a show-business businessman. He has never held political views as such. He gave money to whoever asked. He gave money to Hillary Clinton in the past. He supported women’s choice.
He runs a gambling casino. He had a television show. These things made him famous. He is also boastful. He does not always tell the truth.
Why do some people think he should be president? Who knows? What we do know is that more than a dozen Republican candidates are now down to five. Ben Carson is no longer “in it to win it.” John Kasich is the only one who is a moderate. The others are conservatives. This does not look like a good time to be a moderate in the Republican Party.
Trump and Senators Rubio and Cruz are the centers of attention. Trump does not like immigrants. It does not matter if they are Mexicans or Muslims. Cruz and Rubio are Hispanic. They are both Cubans. They feel the same way about immigrants as Trump does.
Conservatives have not enjoyed the twenty-first century. The events of 9/11 shook them. It made them feel uncertain. Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio give voters certainty. They like that.
They want to roll things back. American voters will answer a question. Should we go back to the past that no longer exists? Or should we try to create a better future? The answer is clear. We have to move forward.
