Obama Trying to Get Deportation Policy Right

Immigration programs are in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) is a law enforcement organization.

This means the nation views undocumented people as potential threats to the country’s security. Is this a fair view of people in the country with no legal papers?

The Obama administration deported more undocumented people than any previous one. This story is about focusing on criminals. Is it convincing?

Is everyone familiar with the Deferral Program begun in mid-2012?

Should people who arrived in the United States without papers authorizing their presence be allowed to become citizens before those people who arrived with documents?

These are tough questions that will be discussed in the coming year.

Overweight Children Number Reducing

Is it important to continue going on about the nation’s weight problem? Does it encourage overweight folks to lose weight or just make them feel resigned to their weight situation?

Experts believe that educating the public about the importance of weight control is the smart way to go. It seems to have worked with smoking, which has gone down a lot.

Should we continue with efforts to ban or tax sugary sodas and food? Again, taxes and bans seemed to have had an impact on smokers.

This article suggests that breast-feeding is a factor in producing weight-healthy infants. But there is no proof. What is the importance of speculating without proof?

Deferred Interest a Ticking Time Bomb

America’s economy is based on spending by consumers. Years ago, manufacturing and exporting our goods drove our economic engine.

What happened is that production became cheaper in countries that paid lower wages to its workers, notably China, but now in many other countries.

That is why credit is so important. It means consumers can buy things they cannot pay for at the time of purchase.

Studies show consumer spending is greater than consumer income. Credit is not dangerous when handled intelligently. It is lethal when it gets out of hand and consumers cannot pay their debts.

This article talks about one program of credit – deferred payments. It is an easy way to buy things. If you do not make your payments, the interest you pay will make a fortune for the lender and impoverish the borrower.

Does the article make it clear?
